TEACHING
Scripture focus: John 18:12-27
This week we will be focusing on Peter and how by rejecting the promises of Psalm 1 ended up not being able to withstand the onslaught of the world and then soon thereafter the actual denial of Christ. Because Peter was walking with the crowd as they followed Jesus to Annas’ house (walking in the counsel of the wicked), then by standing in the path of sinners by hanging out with the crowd around the fire in Annas’ courtyard, and then even sitting in the seat of scoffers (see Luke 22:55), Peter ends up going so far as to taking a courtroom-type oath that he isn’t one of Jesus’ followers and doesn’t know Him.
I will be challenging the teens to take stock of their life.
1- Is your whole manner of life pleasing to the Lord?
2- In what ways have you been walking by, standing in, and sitting with sin in your life?
3- In what do you delight? The word of God or the things of the world?
4- Who are you allowing to influence your life?
5- What results are you seeing? The blessing of God or the destruction that comes with wickedness?
My take-stock question will be “are you living more like Sandy Simon (Simon means “he who hears” which I’m going to use in the sense of always listening to others opinions) and is unable to stand on his own or like Rocky Peter (Peter means rock) who was able to withstand the onslaught of the world and stand firm in Christ?

QUESTIONS TO DISCUSS WITH YOUR CHILDREN
1. From Psalm 1:1, what are some of the ways you have seen people come to harm by not delighting in the (law of) the Lord?
2. How is meditating on His law day and night more than just thinking?
3. How does curiosity and sinful desires lead a person to go from walking, to standing, to sitting (from Psalm 1:1)?
4. What is one thing we can pray about right now?
